Braubach

Braubach, the City of Roses and Vines, is the most northern of all the pretty towns with their half-timbered buildings and narrow, crooked alleys which spread out into the side valleys of the Rhine. Like the crescent of the moon, the Town of Roses and Vines forms a semi-circle around the castle hill on which the imposing Marksburg is enthroned. The only hilltop castle that wasn’t destroyed, the Marksburg has served as a defiant stronghold against foreign powers ever since the 11th century and is now the town’s landmark. The famous rose garden on the bank of the Rhine not only delights visitors but also gave the town, which is surrounded by roses and vines, its nickname.   More about Braubach...
