Bacharach is still fascinating visitors with its rich half-timbered façades, including the Alte Posthof (old post office) with its splendid inner yard and the Alte Haus (old house), which was built in 1568. The parish church of St. Peter, with its peculiar and sophisticated style, which was built in 1100, is also situated at the market square. The prominent ruins of the Gothic Werner Chapel, whose construction began in 1294 and lasted 140 years, are in the immediate vicinity. The town fortifications were built in the 14th century and are very well preserved: seven of the original towers still exist in their full height. More about Bacharach...
