Kulturufer Bingen

Rheinkai 21, 55411 Bingen

Boardwalk at the world heritage 'Oberes Mittelrheintal' with a view on the famous 'Mäuseturm'. It's the starting point for excursion ships that go to the Loreley and the place where the Jazz festival 'Bingen swingt' or the cultural festival takes place.

North of Bingen's city center, overlooked by Klopp Castle, lies the banks of the Rhine, which were transformed into the lively flowering "Kulturufer" (culture bank) as part of the 2008 state horticultural show. The walker along the 3 km long riverbank promenade is accompanied by a lush sea of blossoms on one side and fantastic views on the other. From the eastern end to the Rhine-Nahe Eck, there is a magnificent view of the vineyards of the Rheingau with the mighty Germania of the Niederwald Monument near Rüdesheim. The landing stage is the starting point for boat trips to the world-famous Loreley. Continuing westward, the trail passes the town's former electric power plant. The listed building from 1898 now houses the Historical Museum am Strom. The exhibits make the history of the town of Bingen and the times of the Rhine Romanticism come alive. Above all, however, the museum is dedicated to Saint Hildegard of Bingen. At the confluence of the Rhine and Nahe rivers lies the park at the Mäuseturm, an invitation to picnic on the green meadow. Trees provide ample shade and colorful flowerbeds exude delightful fragrances. Natural banks are retreats for endangered animal and plant species. A skate park, beach volleyball and basketball courts, and a water playground are popular destinations and meeting places, especially during vacation periods. In the neighborhood, the landmark and namesake of the idyll is enthroned on its own island: the Bingen Mäuseturm. It marks the entrance of the Rhine into the narrow, rocky UNESCO World Heritage Upper Middle Rhine Valley.
