Schloss Friedrichstein
an der B 42, 56567 Neuwied-Feldkirchen
Memorial stone that commemorates Friedrichstein Castle
The former castle, of which only a window ledge on a rock remains, was built in 1645/1646 by Count Friedrich III of Wied. The castle was used for residential and representative purposes. It was located directly on the Rhine in today's district of Feldkirchen, district of Fahr.
In 1806, the roof was torn down and the castle was left to decay. It was later called the Devil's Castle, as it was said to be haunted.
As part of the construction of the right Rhine route, the ruin was blown up in 1868.
